2019 Theme: Self-Resilance

Organizers of Urban Democracy FEAST and dedicated volunteers are preparing for the next micro crowd fund event. This event will host four social justice projects in Kalamazoo. The goal of the organizers is to generate funds that kick start projects that might otherwise not get funded or help them make a qualitative leap in their work. Such projects submit an application, and up to four applicants are selected to make a five-minute presentation at the supper. Their presentations will exhibit evidence that they are addressing a shard need, with the support of other groups in the neighborhood, that the project demonstrates direct democracy, and work on changing a specific public policy.

Projects slated to present at El Concilio on March 30, 2019 in Kalamazoo are, The Boiling Point, Third Shift Daycare, Breastfeeding Coalition, and Eastside Neighborhood Association.


Projects identifying the public policies that prevent social justice and direct democracy, and that also propose replacement policies, which can be implemented here. Since May 2015 and November 2018 over $14,000 to support social justice projects demonstrating direct democracy and accountability has been raised. Fall Applications for Urban Democracy FEAST Available September 2018

Kalamazoo, MI- Applications for fall 2018 FEAST will be available September 10, 2018. Please check where a hard copy of the application can be picked up from a local business or organization. Applications are due October 8, 2018.  The fall FEAST will be held November 10, 2018 at Allen Chapel AME Church located at 804 N. West Street in Kalamazoo, MI.

Urban Democracy Invites the Community to a FEAST of Social Justice Initiatives

The UDF organizing committee and volunteers are busy getting together for the next FEAST, scheduled for November 18th, 2017 @ 4 pm. The venue is located at 345 W. Michigan Ave, Kalamazoo, MI.

Join us for a meal, where we engage in gathering our resources to support local social justice projects. Listen to the presentations of the candidates and vote directly for projects deciding how the funds raised from the dinner will be distributed to each group.
